Last week, Silver Spring Networks executives participated in a Tweetchat moderated by TechRepublic senior writer Teena Maddox to raise awareness of smart cities and their impact on the everyday lives of citizens. Silver Spring’s Senior Director of Smart Cities Dan Evans was joined by Silver Spring’s VP of Product, John Marcolini and VP of Marketing, Marina Donovan, along with Phil Beecher, Chairman of the Wi-SUN Alliance and Steve Decker of the Power Over Energy social media literacy campaign, to dive into topics such as public safety, security, sustainability and the importance of consumer education for Smart City initiatives. You can see a recap of the Tweetchat embedded below, or on Storify.

The Tweetchat followed the release of a new Smart Cities Consumer Research Study from Silver Spring and Power Over Energy, conducted with the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability Advanced Grid Research. The study sampled U.S. consumers to gauge their awareness and knowledge of smart city technology, finding that 75% of citizens believe that smart cities will positively impact their lives.
