Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined ComEd President and CEO Anne Pramaggiore last Friday for the grand opening of its Chicago Training Center in Bridgeport, Illinois, which will train 4,000 ComEd employees per year on managing its modern two-way communications power network. With a 10-year, $2.6 billion Infrastructure Investment Plan, including $1.3 billion to strengthen its electric system and another $1.3 billion to add new smart grid technology, ComEd is leading one of the most ambitious infrastructure modernization programs in the industry today. ComEd selected Silver Spring Networks to help develop the communications network that supports the utility’s deployment of nearly four million smart meters across northern Illinois, and is now leveraging its multi-application network platform to deploy other smart devices like smart street lights.
