Recognized for Innovative Smart Grid Business Models and Solutions for New Zealand’s Disaggregated Market
Auckland, New Zealand – August 28, 2014 – Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) today announced that it was recognized with the Frost & Sullivan 2014 New Zealand Smart Grid Solutions Company of the Year award. In New Zealand’s retailer led, disaggregated market, Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 networking platform, software, and services has helped enable energy retailers, distribution companies, and Metering Service Providers more flexibility and reliability in the delivery of their services and empowered consumers to take more control over their energy choices. Silver Spring has collaborated with SmartCo, a consortium of lines companies including Alpine Energy, Electricity Invercargill, Network Tasman, The Power Company, OnMetering, and WEL Networks, to deploy smart infrastructure services to support a number of retailers, and serving urban and rural consumers across New Zealand. Silver Spring is also supporting distribution company Unison for its Distribution Automation deployment across its service territory to increase reliability and connectivity to remote network devices. Silver Spring is also working with the Meter Service Provider Metrix to offer an innovative metering-as-a-service model, including for a joint deployment at Counties Power.
“We are honored that Silver Spring Networks has been recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the 2014 Smart Grid Solutions Company of the Year,” said Andrew Vlachiotis, Vice President of Asia Pacific Sales, Silver Spring Networks. “Previously, New Zealand’s disaggregated market model has meant that it was difficult to provide a smart energy solution that catered to all segments of the value chain — consumers, retailers, and lines companies. We are proud to be recognized for our collaborative and innovative business and technology partnerships in New Zealand, which are unlocking new value for consumers and are a key enabler for our growth in the region.”
Silver Spring Networks has already connected over two million homes and businesses in Asia Pacific. By providing a standards-based IPv6 networking platform, software and services for smart grid programs, Silver Spring is helping energy distributors, retailers and consumers in New Zealand realize cost, operational, and energy efficiency benefits through leading smart infrastructure technology.
