Deployment in Oklahoma Builds on Successful AEP Projects
Redwood City, CA, March 23, 2011 – Silver Spring Networks, a leading provider of smart grid platforms, today announced Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) will deploy Silver Spring’s smart grid solutions. The agreement follows the deployment of Silver Spring’s field proven, IP-based Smart Energy Platform at two of American Electric Power’s other operating companies, AEP Ohio and Indiana Michigan Power through AEP’s gridSMART® initiative.
PSO, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), is an electric utility company serving more than 530,000 customers in eastern and southwestern Oklahoma. With headquarters in Tulsa, PSO has 4,405 megawatts of generating capacity and provides electricity to 230 cities and towns across a service area encompassing 30,000 square miles. As part of the initial phase of PSO’s project, Silver Spring will deliver its Smart Energy Platform, enabling the utility to upgrade its existing energy infrastructure. Silver Spring will provide unified network infrastructure, professional services and multiple smart grid applications, including advanced metering and automated power restoration equipment on its distribution lines.
Silver Spring Networks is committed to unlocking the vast potential of the smart grid to improve reliability and safety and empower consumers with information and control over their energy usage and electric bills. “The positive results of AEP’s gridSMART projects in Columbus and South Bend have demonstrated the smart grid delivers real benefits – in terms of savings, energy efficiency, improved communications and greater control,” said Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO of Silver Spring Networks. “We are pleased that consumers and businesses in Oklahoma will have an opportunity to realize the benefits of the smart grid with the introduction of the gridSMART program at PSO.”
