ISTE, San Diego, CA, June 26, 2012 – Silver Spring Networks, a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, today announced that it has open sourced its award-winning smart energy education program, known as A Smart Energy Future, to educators, parents and students worldwide. Leveraging the open Curriki platform, Silver Spring’s energy curriculum – one of the first comprehensive educational resources designed to increase the public’s understanding of energy efficiency – will be made available under a Creative Commons license at www.Curriki.org. Curriki is a nationally recognized non-profit organization focused on improving K-12 education through technology with a global community of teachers, students, administrators and parents from 194 countries worldwide.
“Silver Spring Networks is committed to empowering consumers with the tools and resources that allow them to make smart, educated choices on driving a more energy efficient and sustainable future,” said Ingrid Van Den Hoogen, Chief Marketing Officer, Silver Spring Networks. “This open curriculum will enable many more educators, parents and students to learn about important benefits of energy efficiency and the actions they can take each and every day to help make that a reality.”
“The strength of the resources available on Curriki’s open platform is driven in large part by the contributions of innovative industry leaders like Silver Spring Networks,” said Kim Jones, CEO of Curriki. “We’re pleased Silver Spring’s energy curriculum will be available on Curriki and believe it will be an outstanding resource to teachers who are seeking to increase knowledge about energy efficiency.”
The Smart Energy Future curriculum is one component of Silver Spring’s award-winning “Connect Transform” program, which helps its utility customers educate a diverse group of consumer audiences on the importance of energy efficiency, the benefits of the smart grid, and how it will meaningfully impact their lives. As utilities modernize their energy infrastructure, integrate renewable energy sources and empower consumer choice, it is increasingly imperative to engage and educate end-consumers on the role they can play in driving energy efficiency.
