What are the components of Silver Spring’s Developer Program? What do the developer kits include?
A: Our primary goal with the Developer Program is to provide the tools and technologies to speed up the development of IoT solutions. Silver Spring’s Developer Program is comprised of a developer portal, developer kits and access to our data platform as well as Starfish Studio.
Developer Portal – A single point of entry providing developers a wealth of information via forums, tutorial videos and the documentation library. The Portal is also the storefront to buy Developer Kits and the entry point to Starfish Studio and the data platform.
Development Kits – To speed the creation of hardware devices and enable edge computing solutions, the Developer Program offers two development kits:
- Milli Shield Dev Kit for Arduino – provides development partners with Silver Spring’s RF mesh IPv6 technology in a form factor designed for battery-operated devices.
- IoT Edge Router™, Dev Edition – the IoT Edge Router offers several avenues for – development use cases:
- As a client to our mesh IPv6 network, the IoT Edge router can connect any sensor to our data platform via standard Ethernet or USB interfaces.
- As an edge computer solution, the IoT Edge Router includes the ability to develop edge applications on the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution using SNAPS.
- The ability to connect other networks to the Silver Spring RF mesh network.
Software Simulation Tool – Starfish™ Studio is an interactive simulation tool available through the Developer Portal for modeling IoT devices and solutions and enabling easy application development.
Forum for collaboration – Silver Spring encourages open discussions with fellow developers and Silver Spring engineers as you design innovative new applications.
Documentation Library – Leverage the comprehensive video tutorials, quick start guides and reference materials to build and prototype IoT solutions.
