Gathering real-time data from intelligent endpoints provides the brainpower that drives the smart grid. Silver Spring outfits a variety of intelligent endpoints with its network interface cards (NICs) to gather and relay this information. The Silver Spring NIC supports two connections – one into the smart utility network and one into the consumer’s home area network.
Silver Spring has partnered with a variety of vendors to deploy our NIC within their electricity meters to enable advanced metering. We’ve done the same with gas IMU vendors, delivering an extremely power-efficient, battery-based product for long life in the field.
Distribution Automation (DA) devices, such as switches and reclosers, require instantaneous communications to quickly isolate and route around power failures. The Silver Spring eBridge installs within those devices to provide the utility with real-time communications about the status of the distribution network.
