Gathering real-time data from intelligent endpoints provides the brainpower that drives the smart grid. Silver Spring outfits a variety of intelligent endpoints with its Communications Module to gather and relay this information. The Silver Spring Communications Modules support two connections – one into the utility’s smart grid network and one into the consumer’s home area network.
Silver Spring has partnered with a variety of vendors to deploy Communications Module within their electricity meters to enable advanced metering. We’ve also designed our Communications Module into our Gas IMU vendors, delivering an extremely power-efficient, battery-based product for long field life.
Distribution Automation (DA) devices, such as switches and reclosers, require instantaneous communications to quickly isolate and route around power failures. The Silver Spring Bridge family installs within those devices to provide the utility with real-time communications about the status of the distribution network.
