Silver Spring Networks enables CENTRON® Meters with Smart Meter Capabilities

San Mateo, CA, February 5, 2007 - Silver Spring Networks today announced the commercial availability of the Itron CENTRON® residential electricity meter equipped with the Silver Spring Networks’ Network Interface Card (NIC). This combination provides high quality meter performance with two-way, IP-based communications for the next generation utility network. CENTRON joins a growing number of meters enabled by Silver Spring Networks.

The Silver Spring Networks-enabled CENTRON meter is a cost-effective networked metering solution. The CENTRON’s metering accuracy and performance is extended by Silver Spring Networks’ NIC providing multi-channel data recording, event logging, power outage and restoration notification, tamper detection, and on-demand reads.

Cost-efficient services are a major challenge facing utility companies today. The CENTRON meter and the Silver Spring Networks’ secure, IP-based advanced utility network allow the utility to perform scheduled and on-demand tasks from any secure web browser. With “over the air” upgradeability, the CENTRON meter can be remotely reprogrammed or reconfigured, requiring no field visits.
