Silver Spring Networks Announces Availability of GE I-210™ Advanced Meters
San Mateo, CA, February 5, 2007 - Silver Spring Networks today announced the commercial availability of the GE I-210™ Demand/TOU and Energy-Only meters equipped with the Silver Spring Networks’ Network Interface Card (NIC). This is a significant step to realizing the advanced utility network, as this combination provides the intelligent endpoints and two-way communication of usage details characteristic of the next generation utility network.
The I-210 combined with the Silver Spring Networks’ NIC provides utilities with a cost efficient networked metering solution. GE’s advanced meter design is a powerful combination of accuracy, affordability and reliability and provides the measurement tool to deliver equitable customer billing and dependable maintenance free operation. The I-210 Demand/TOU equipped with the Silver Spring Networks’ NIC delivers on-demand reads, multi-channel interval data, Time of Use (TOU) with full calendaring, power outage and restoration alarms, events logs and more. The Demand/TOU supports extended metering functions more traditionally found in commercial and industrial meters for residential and “smart metering” applications. The I-210 Energy-Only meter equipped with the NIC provides on-demand reads with multi-channel data and event logging.
With Silver Spring Networks’ NIC inside, utility operators can remotely upgrade network firmware, reprogram metering parameters and monitor device operations from one’s desk - no need for field visits. SSN-enabled I-210 meters also act as a network relay for gas, water or other electric meters in the field, extending network coverage and reliability.
The delivery of cost-efficient, reliable services is one of the biggest challenges facing utility companies today. The I-210 meters equipped with SSN NIC solves this by enabling a highly flexible and extensible, IP-based, 2-way advanced utility network that covers the territory from the data center to the customer premise. With the I-210 and Silver Spring Networks’ advanced network in place, utilities can communicate more efficiently with their customers and meet the challenge of delivering low-cost, reliable services.
“Utilities looking to minimize costs while increasing efficiency and services are demanding more from their meters and networks. This new offering enables advanced metering and two-way communications - these are the meters of the future,” said Scott Lang, CEO of Silver Spring Networks. “The I-210 meters equipped with the NIC will enable utilities to connect to their customers and to offer advanced applications, improving service delivery and customer satisfaction.”
I-210 meters with Silver Spring Networks NICs are available from GE in multiple forms.
