Silver Spring Networks Appoints Vice President of Worldwide Sales

San Mateo, CA, January 8, 2007 - Following a year of successful customer pilots, product advancements and significant funding developments, Silver Spring Networks announced today that Dan Middleton has joined the company as Vice President of Worldwide Sales. He will lead the sales organization and strategy development, reporting to Scott Lang, President and CEO.

Prior to joining Silver Spring Networks, Dan was General Manager and Senior Vice President of Riverstone Networks, a leading IP data networking company. He joined Riverstone in 2004 to turn it around and expand its IP networking business. Dan helped shape and execute on the strategy that delivered strong fiscal and customer growth. This success resulted in Lucent Technologies $207 million purchase of Riverstone Networks in April 2006.

For the 10 years prior to joining Riverstone, Dan held various executive positions with Nortel Networks. His leadership included roles such as the Vice President for the Enterprise Data businesses across EMEA, Vice President of IP Technical Sales and Support in the Americas, Global Marketing and Business Development VP for the Cable TV market. He also ran Nortel Asia’s efforts with the Broadband industry’s expansion from video into new two-way, interactive solutions.

In 1998, Dan was part of the executive team that created NOR.WEB Ltd, a European-based venture between Nortel Networks and United Utilities. NOR.WEB was the pioneer in Broadband Over Powerline (BPL) solutions for the utility industry. In early 1998, Dan helped to establish the marketing and customer strategy for this new joint venture in Europe. Later, he returned to the US to lead the formation of a new company to address the unique US electrical infrastructure with Broadband access.

Before joining Nortel Networks, Dan was the Director of Sales for York International Corporation, an Enterprise oriented supplier of industrial HVAC and process equipment in North America.

Dan holds a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
