Silver Spring Networks Wins AlwaysOn Going Green 100 Award for Energy Efficiency
Redwood City, CA, September 10, 2007 - Silver Spring Network has won the 2007 AlwaysOn Going Green Award for Energy Efficiency. Over 500 private companies were nominated by dozens of top venture capital firms and a wide breadth of green technology insiders. To make the final selection, companies needed to demonstrate that they excelled in the five primary evaluation criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value creation, and media attention or “buzz.” Silver Spring Networks and their Smart Energy Network were selected based on the immediate value they can bring to utilities companies worldwide.
Silver Spring Networks‘ IP-based Smart Energy Network addresses the most formidable challenges of managing multiple applications and devices on the same network. The Smart Energy Network from Silver Spring Networks is based on proven technology for addressing, routing, service quality and other management functions. With an IP-based Smart Energy Network in place, a utility can “plug and play” any variety of devices, deploy consumer energy portals, perform intelligent load shedding, enable remote disconnect and more. By making the grid more efficient, the US could save over $3 billion dollars annually and help to drastically reduce carbon emissions.
“The AlwaysOn GoingGreen 100 companies will accelerate the global movement to a more sustainable environment,” said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. “The ideas and innovation we saw as we reviewed hundreds of clean technology companies will be foundational to the next wave of economic growth in California and beyond. My congratulations to each AlwaysOn GoingGreen 100 winner–these are the companies which we predict will have the greatest market traction, strongest innovation and most game-changing approaches this year.”
“We are excited about this award as it recognizes the value of the Smart Grid to delivering energy efficiency” explains Eric Dresselhuys, Vice President of Marketing. “We bring a new approach to utility networking while enabling practical and cost-effective “green” energy based on open standards and the robust and field-proven suite of Internet Protocols (IP). This technology is ready for field deployment today and can have an immediate impact on increasing the efficiency of the electrical grid.”
