Michael Bell, President, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors

Michael Bell is President, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors for Silver Spring Networks.  Prior to joining Silver Spring, Mr. Bell held several leadership positions at Intel Corporation, spearheading the company's expansion into new categories of connected devices.  These included Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the New Devices Group and co-leader of the Mobile and Communications Group.  Before that, Bell was part of the executive management team at Palm Inc. where he served as Senior Vice President of product development and was responsible for all aspects of product strategy, development and deployment, bringing the Palm PRE, the Palm PIXI, and many more products to market. Prior to his time at Palm, Bell was Vice President, CPU Software, Macintosh Hardware Division, at Apple Inc. Over the course of his career at Apple, spanning 1991 to 2007, he also made significant contributions to the iMac, Apple TV, and iPhone programs.

Bell earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988.

Rick Arnold, General Counsel and Secretary

Rick ArnoldRick Arnold joined Silver Spring as our General Counsel and Secretary in February 2013. From February 2005 to February 2013, Rick served in multiple roles in Hewlett-Packard Company’s legal department, most recently as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. Prior to joining HP, Rick was an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Rick earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1985 and a J.D./M.B.A. from Duke University in 1994.


Jim Burns, Executive Vice President and CFO

jim-burnsAs Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Jim is responsible for all aspects of Silver Spring’s financial operations. Jim is an accomplished global executive with strong skills in P&L management and scaling businesses for accelerated growth while driving efficient operations. Prior to joining Silver Spring, Jim worked at Hewlett-Packard for over 20 years, holding a number of senior executive roles in various hardware, software and services businesses. His most recent roles include SVP and COO of Enterprise Services, CFO of HP's Enterprise Business, VP of Investor Relations, and VP and General Manager of PC Services and Accessories. Prior to HP, Jim worked as a CPA at Ernst and Young. He received a BS degree in Accounting from Santa Clara University and remains active with his alma mater, serving on the boards of the Leavey School of Business and the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education. Jim has a passion for designing innovative business models that boost growth, margins and customer satisfaction, and building high-performing teams.


Eric Dresselhuys, Executive Vice President, Global Sales

Eric has been with Silver Spring Networks since it was founded in 2002 and has more than 14 years of experience in developing Smart Grid solutions to address the industry’s most pressing challenges.  Eric has been instrumental to the growth of the company and currently leads the company’s global development.  He has also held various leadership roles in customer development, new product development and product introductions. Eric is a frequent speaker on topics related to smart grids and energy efficiency and has served on the board of directors of the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC), Demand Response and Smart Grid (DRSG) Coalition and the Automatic Meter Reading Association’s (AMRA) Marketing and Development Committee. He was also the founding member of OpenAMI.  Eric previously spent 9 years at Procter & Gamble in various sales and marketing roles. He holds a B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

George Flammer, Chief Scientist

George has more than 20 years of experience in software and hardware development, most recently as Director of Communications Technology at Metricom where he was a key contributor to the design and development of the Ricochet high-speed data radio product and data service. In 1998 George co-founded G3M Corporation and served as its CTO where his primary responsibility was the design and development of the Panthera product line. George joined Rosum in September 2002 as Director of Systems Engineering, where he directed multidisciplinary teams in the development of real-world indoor positioning. George earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and has authored more than 20 domestic and international patents. George’s hybrid vehicle emits less than 400 pounds of carbon per 1000 miles. Figure yours at:


Steve Ingram, Senior Vice President, Global Delivery

Since joining Silver Spring, Steve has focused on establishing the customer at the center of operations and aligning the smart grid services team to accommodate Silver Spring’s rapid growth. Prior to joining Silver Spring Networks, Steve led the global recruiting organization for Perot Systems Corporation focusing on process, technology and metrics. Subsequently, he was the Chief Operating Officer for the firm’s Financial Services Division.

Prior to joining Perot Systems, Steve served with distinction in the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Force, departing with the rank of Captain. Steve holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Georgia Tech. He has also taken part in the Executive Education programs at both Harvard Law School and MIT Sloan School of Management.


Don Reeves, Executive Vice President, Engineering and Managed Services

Don Reeves joined Silver Spring Networks in 2005 and brings over 20 years of experience in high-technology product development to his role as Executive Vice President of Smart Grid Services. During his time at Silver Spring, Don has led the software engineering team to develop the UtilityIQ product suite to Silver Spring’s utility customers and has provided technical and implementation leadership across all of the company’s key accounts including Florida Power and Light, Pacific Gas & Electric, Jemena, and CitiPower and Powercor Australia. Don has overall leadership for Silver Spring’s customer delivery programs globally, including field technical services, customer support and software hosting services.

Before joining Silver Spring Networks, Don served as Vice President of Engineering at Black Pearl where he managed the software development, support and services teams. Prior, Don was the Vice President of Engineering at Commerce One, where he managed the development of the company’s market-leading SRM application suite. Before that, Don managed the software development organizations at a pair of start-ups and GlobalPC- where his teams developed and delivered a highly efficient and easy-to-use alternative PC desktop and an accompanying Internet portal. Don began his career at Geoworks where he led the development teams that delivered the first Palm-equipped PDA. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Terri Stynes, Vice President, Human Resources

Terri Stynes leads Silver Spring’s Human Resources, Technical Education and Real Estate organizations. Terri joined the company in 2009, leading our Human Resources Business Partner team. Prior to joining Silver Spring Networks, she spent nine years at Sun Microsystems as a Business Partner supporting various global organizations, and 15 years at Bank of America in various operational roles in the credit card division. Terri holds a M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and a B.S. in Business Administration, both from San Francisco State University.


Raj Vaswani, Chief Technology Officer

Raj has been with Silver Spring since 2003, and brings more than 15 years of innovation, product development and product management experience in the Internet, software and networking industries to the Company. Prior to joining Silver Spring, Raj was an Entrepreneur in Residence with Foundation Capital. Prior to Foundation Capital, Raj served as Vice President of Engineering at (now, a high-traffic consumer-oriented Web site. Previously, Raj was Senior Scientist and Director of Engineering for the @Home Network (later Excite @Home). Raj holds a MS in Computer Science from the University of Washington and a BS in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley. Raj's commitment to the environment extends to having a large Oak tree in the center of his house, although he hugs it only sporadically.
