Senior Firmware Engineer

Silver Spring Networks is hiring for the position of Senior Firmware Engineer in our Redwood City, California office.
Silver Spring Networks is a venture-backed company that has gained solid traction with electric, gas and water utility companies and suppliers worldwide. Using open, standards-based networking technologies, we build hardware and software products that extend utility companies' networks to the customer's premise to gather and send information in real-time. This enables critical command, control, and information functions, helping our customers meet the demands of a changing business climate, without imposing on the environment by building more power plants.
What you will be doing
In this role, you will work collaboratively with other seasoned engineers in a small team within a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for complex design and firmware development activities on new and existing wireless and/or radio frequency (RF) systems and tools. You will be responsible for developing embedded and non-embedded software for Silver Spring Network's Wireless networking products. The ability to interact with a talented group of individual contributors is a must.
Essential functions
- Embedded software design, development and documenting
- Interface and support the hardware development team, assisting in the bring up of new hardware
- Interface and support manufacturing
- Interface with customers as needed
- Perform complex tests, simulations and analyses of your software in operation
You will operate under minimal supervision working with a group of 4 to 6 engineers. This position reports to the Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of embedded software development in C on multiple hardware platforms
- Experience with Internet protocols TCP, IPv4, IPv6, IKE/IPSec, routing protocols and related applications desirable; hands-on design and development of same highly desirable
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Experience using Source Code Control system
- Experience debugging system, hardware, and software problems
- Experience with meshed RF or wire line networks is a big plus
This position requires a minimum of a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. An equivalent combination of education & experience is acceptable.
