Manufacturing Test Engineering Manager

Silver Spring Networks (SSN) is hiring for the position of Manufacturing Test Engineering Manager at our Redwood City California office.

Using open, standards-based networking infrastructure technologies, we build hardware and software products that extend utility companies’ networks to the customer’s location to gather and send information in real-time. What you will be doing
In this role, you will establish the overall hardware test strategy for Silver Spring Networks product line. Working with the Development Engineers and New Product Introduction/Manufacturing Engineers to establish and implement an integrated test plan. Develop and document the necessary test hardware and procedures to ensure full test coverage of all SSN hardware products.
Essential functions
- Conceive, develop, and execute Silver Spring Networks functional test, AOI and x-ray inspection requirements to insure 100% test coverage of all hardware products.
- Define, develop, and implement the equipment, testing methods, and procedures (MPIs) for each test.
- Continuously refine and improve test equipment, methods, and metrics to reduce product cost and increase test coverage and outgoing quality levels.
- Identify, analyze, and initiate corrective action when product design failures are uncovered by the test process.
- Partner with Product Development and NPI Engineers to define and implement a Design for Testability strategy and set of guidelines. Evaluate and recommend opportunities for hardware and firmware BIST.
- The ideal candidate must have hands-on capability and will both test and manage. The position requires an independent self-starter who can multi-task across projects, manage to tight deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Contribute to the hardware engineering culture by actively participating in the evolution of best practices, tools and processes.
- The successful candidate will have experience in a time sensitive environment, and will be adept at risk assessment and test prioritization.
Qualifications
- BSEE with analog and digital systems background. MSEE preferred.
- 10+ years of RF or mixed RF product functional test system development.
- High volume RF product test experience a must.
- High volume SMT and product manufacturing experience a must.
- Proven track record of developing test plans - from engineering specifications, product marketing documents, design reviews and presentations.
- Proven ability to lead, grow, and develop a manufacturing test engineering team.
- Strong analytical, technical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced in and strong believer in test automation.
- Familiarity with UNIX-based systems, including writing UNIX shell scripts and "C" programming.
- Experienced with Microsoft Project or other comparable project tracking software tools.
- Must have ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated; able to demonstrate initiative and risk-taking.
