Director of Sales

Silver Spring Networks (SSN) is hiring for the position of Director of Sales in various locations around the US and Canada.
We are a venture-backed company that has gained solid traction with electric, gas and water utility companies and suppliers worldwide. Using open, standards-based networking infrastructure technologies, we build hardware and software products that extend utility companies’ networks to the customer’s location to gather and send information in real-time. This enables critical command, control, and information functions, helping our customers meet the demands of a changing business climate, without imposing on the environment by building more power plants.
What you will be doing
You will provide leadership to develop a team over time to address the growth of our business and to collaboratively utilize the full resources of the Company to build the customer’s business and trust.
The role of Director of Sales is a senior, strategic level selling/market position that can provide market- and account-level leadership to properly identify, qualify, create account plans, and execute against that plan to win the next generation of Smart Grid deployments in their respective account base.
This role is focused on named, major investor owned utility and large municipal accounts located in the western and central regions of North America. This may also include a territory, for example, western region, in order to separate and manage customer demand, but the primary function is named accounts.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of direct, complex executive-level selling into the utility or telecommunications/data markets, 10 years overall
- Demonstrated ability to leverage a strong group of customer resources in executing the role
- Experience and knowledge of data and/or wireless RF networking
The ideal candidate should have
- A proven track record of success in the Western Region for selling complex solutions to large energy utility organizations
- A demonstrable ability to become a trusted advisor to his/her customers
- Strong application/software/hardware solutions selling capability
- Experience calling on executive and senior level contacts within large companies
- Experience in team selling and building a team
- Ability to influence others using customer-centered selling skills
- Experience with managing longer sales cycles and, balancing and driving multiple simultaneous accounts to success
- Extensive knowledge of business/economic environment for Utilities
- Ability to constructively and persuasively present point of view
- Strong written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills
- Professional Image with a strong business acumen
- Ability to travel 50% of the time
This position requires a Bachelors degree in engineering or other technical discipline; an MBA would be a strong plus.
